Announcing the 2024 Orlando Contest Dinner Sponsored by Icom – Friday February 9th, 2024
The dinner will be held at the American Legion Department of Florida building at 1912A Lee Road , Orlando, Florida 32810. The dinner will be barbeque served buffet style. Doors will open at 5:30 pm. Dinner will be served at approximately 6:30 pm.
The grand prize this year will be an Icom IC-7610 transceiver that will be donated by Icom USA.
The speaker for the 2024 Florida Contest Group Contest Dinner is Charlie Wooten, NF4A from Lynn Haven, FL. He is a long time FCG member and one of the most active members from the panhandle.
For many years he has travelled to Europe and operated some contests with his Croatian friends at the 9A1A superstation. He has also been on DXpeditions to KH4, KH6, J7, T9, OK, HA, P4, PJ7, FS, ZF and C9.
Charlie is also a Life Member ARRL, member of ARRL since July, 1962, Past President and Honorary Lifetime Member of the Panama City (FL) Amateur Radio Club, member Florida Contest Group, Alabama Contest Group, Croatian DX Club, Northwest Florida DX Club, Southeastern DX Club, A-1 Operator’s Club, DXCC Honor Roll, ARRL Triple Play WAS, Croatian Telegraphy Club, CWops, Radio Club of America and ARRL Contest Advisory Committee Southeast Division Representative (2006-2013) and 2017 to present.
Charlie has also been heavily involved in the WRTC as a referee. He was a referee for PT5O team of HP1WW and N5ZO at 2006 WRTC in Brazil, WRTC2014 held in New England (USA) for the Slovak team of OM3BH and OM3GI (which came in second place), WRTC 2018 in Wittenberg, Germany for the Y89N team of ZL3IO and his daughter ZL4YL. In the most recent WRTC held in Bologna, Italy he was the referee for the I44G team of 4X4FR and 4X1DX.
Professionally Charlie is a Market Engineer for iHeart Media. (formally Clear Channel Communications) He was named “Clear Channel Small Market Engineer of the Year” for both 2003 and 2004 and Clear Channel National Engineer of the year 2005. His son Chad also has an amateur radio license holding his old call, WA4IMC (ex KG4HXE) .
