W4AA Obituary

Art Wildblood, Radio W4AA (ex-K3NHL; ex-W2DXL, ex-W2IB), is now a Silent Key (SK), having taken ill in recent weeks. May he Rest in Peace. Art was born in the 1930s and received his license as a teen. Active on radio telegraphy (CW), Art was a contester, an aficionado of the 160-Meter “Gentleman’s” radio band, a DX’er, and a member of several radio organizations. When he was young, Art was voted “The Most Friendly” graduate in his high school, a moniker which lasted a lifetime. He graduated with a Bachelor Degree from Siena College; also Michigan Technical University in Houghton; Served honorably in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Med on the naval destroyer USS Soley during the Lebanese War of the 1950s; United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA, 1959); Later retired from IBM. He operated often from MT Club Station W8YY, and from his wife JoAnn’s station, Radio W2DXC and K3PKI (SK). He held memberships in the Frankford Radio Club (FRC); the Florida Contest Group (FCG); the First Class CW Operators Club (FOC); the Saint Augustine Amateur Radio Society (SAARS), and other societies.
